</font>Capture the Fort!</span></font></font>Snowball Style</font></span></span>
</font></span></span>Normally Weathertop is a dreary, wild, abandoned place. Especially in the wintertime, when the snow falls thick and heavy on the north slopes, and the wind is icy cold. But today the ancient fort is seeing more activity than it has in many years... for a large group of people is gathering, for a game that will test their fighting and tracking and stealth skills to the limit!</font></span></span>
</span></span>A brown-haired female Ranger is organizing the game -Jaenais armed with flags, first aid supplies, and plenty of warm clothing. A fire has been lit at the base of the hill, and she is tending it diligently as she waits to welcome the competitors. To sign up, simply arrive and speak to her.</font>
</font>How it works:</font>1)This is Capture-the-Flag, Plaza-style. In this case, the object of the game is to capture the opposing team's snow fort. In order to do this, one member of a team must find, and steal, the opposing team's flag.</font>2)Players will be divided into two teams. One team will build their snow fort at the base of the hill; one team will build their fort at the top of the hill. A random dice roll will determine which team starts with the high ground.</font>3)On each turn, you may perform one (1) of the following actions: (The results will be determined by a random dice roll)</font>
</font>A. Attempt to tag another player from the opposing team. (Chance of success: 33%) If you tag that player, they will go to "jail" (a predetermined place inside your snow fort), and can only be freed if another player from their team breaks them out of jail.</font>
</font>B. Attempt to break a player from your team out of the other team's jail. (Chance of success: 33%.) In order to do this, you must sneak inside the other team's snow fort and tag the captured player. Anyone from the opposing team may attempt to tag you or stop you.</font>
</font>C. Distract or delay another player by throwing snowballs at them (Chance of success: 50%). If a player from the opposing team is getting too close to your fort, flag, or jail, this could delay them for a turn. Or if you simply wish to keep them occupied and out of your way!</font>
</font>D. Attempt to capture the opposing team's flag. In order to do this, you must complete three tasks (in three or more posts):</font>1) Sneak into their territory without being caught. (Chance of success: 50%)</font>2) Find where they have hidden their flag. (Chance of success: 33%)</font>3) Get the flag and return to your own fort. (Chance of success: 16.7%)</font>An opposing player may attempt to tag you/distract you at any time.</font>
</font>The game ends when a member of one team successfully captures the flag of the other team. Keep in mind that if all of the players on one team are captured, the other team will win by default!</font>
</font>4)You are welcome to strategize with your teammates - a hidden planning thread will be made for each team. You are also entirely free to make it up as you go along!</font>5)All normal Plaza rules apply</font>6)Updates will be made byAlmarëain#996600</font>7) Have fun!!!</font></span></font></span></font></font></span></font></span></span></font></span></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></span></span></span>

"First aid supplies? Is this going to be a dangerous game? I'm in if not, I'm doubly in if it is." Tarawen grinned as she approached Jaena, who had stationed herself at the base of Weathertop to organize a winter game. Tara warmed her gloved hands near the fire and looked around at the supplies. "Brr. What a winter! Glad I came dressed for the weather, though I may be borrowing some of your stock to keep warm while we wait." She adjusted her scarf so that it covered the lower half of her face and pulled her cloak closer about her. Now that she wasn't traveling, she was getting chilly, though she was sure that the exertion of the game would warm her up quite nicely!

<DIV marginheight="1" marginwidth="1" topmargin="1" leftmargin="1" ="WebWizRTE"> Yeah, of course Jaena has first aid supplies ; she knows her rough and rowdy cousin was going to play ! Beren told Tarawen as he strode through the snow past her to wrap his strong arms around Jaena whom he attempted to lift off the ground in a bear hug. Rough and Rowdy Cousins. Plural, Khallador corrected Bear and kissed Jaena's cheek softly. And their equally Rough andRowdyFellow Rangers, he added. Don't get too close, watch out ! Beren playfully warned his friend Tarawen, feigning tagging gestures at her with a broad grin after he settled Jaena back on the snowstrewn earth of Weathertop.

Are we going to be naming teams ? Beren wondered aloud to Jaena and tossed Tarawen a woolen burgundy cap to keep herhead warm, and are you playing by any chance ? His gray eyes sparkled mischievously. You shouldn't escape a snowball fight without getting pelted by me, you've know that since we were kids. Khallador looked towards the south from here at the base of Amon Sûl, hoping more of their comrades would show up - Moriel and Elegost, Rinon and Tolkus, Adalmund andEmeralda, Dairen. Maybe Elrohir son of Elrond would appear.

It was perfectly packed, rounded as best it could be. The slight breeze was not a factor. An rye grin came across Tolkus' face then he let the snowball fly. SWOOSH... was the sound heard as the snowball just missed Khalladors head. The bearly autobule voice was heard saying, "Dang.... missed." Suddenly Tolkus realized that his voice might have been heard so he quickly jumped up from the snow bank he was kneeling behind. He called out, "Hello all!" and made his way over to the fire and his fellow Rangers. "Lovely day today don't you think." he said with a big smile and in general not directed at any body, hoping no one would mention the snowball that just pasted their way.

Halbarad tried not to laugh as he watched Tolkus trying to brazenly pretend that the errant snowball (which had almost connected with Khallador's head) had not been thrown by him! As if the experienced group of rangers seated around the fire wouldn't soon work out who was responsible!
There was a danger that the whole event could just disintegrate into a common snowball fight, instead of being a valuable training exercise. Perhaps his own presence would restore some gravitas, (although he was sorely tempted to follow Tolkus' example, and sneak in just one more snowball.) Halbarad stepped into the circle around the fire, nodded a quick hello to the five rangers already present, and then took out his pipe, looking busy with getting it alight in the wintry wind, to help hide the fact that he was still grinning broadly. He was looking forward to the game, and was particularly interested to see how some of the newer members of the rangers performed.
"Hello everyone, lovely weather for it - and I have managed to round up Dairen as well" he said. "Do you know how many more will be coming?"

Dairen who had ridden to Weathertop with Halbarad, was still tending to their horses, but he soon arrived by the fire, warmly dressed in a pale sheepskin jacket, which he hoped might afford some camouflage if needed in the snow.He was also carrying a bag of marshmallows. "Anyone like to toast a marshmallow while we wait for the others?" he offered, holding out the bag with a smile. He found himself wondering which team he would be assigned to when the 'game' began.

Elegost, </font>Hérion the Falcon NPC</font>s

"HEEEEEEEELP! FALCON GONE WILD!!!!!!!!" shouted Elegost, sprinting to his comrades gathered by Jaena at the base of Weathertop. The cries of a disgruntled winged bird, soaring above him, screeched in ire. "Someone hide me!" shouted, the normally composed and focused Ranger, cringing as if a ghost was after him. "I told you </font>Hérion</font>, you can't play this game! I only meant well! How was I supposed to know you'd take it so personally?!" yelled Elegost, knowing the falcon was out for blood, his blood. </font>Hérion</font> flew in swift broad circles above the defenders of Eriador below, talons bared. "It's not funny!" said Elegost, looking to his friends, who surely found his circumstances a tad bit humorous. "H-he could kill me!" he added, pointing to the enraged falcon.

Elrohir wrapped his dark cloak around him tightly as he walked toward the small group of people gathered around the fire at the base of Amon Sul. The wind was biting cold and the whole landscape was covered in snow. It was a long time since his last visit to Amon Sul. As he walked a little up the path, he heard someone shout 'help'. There were some more shouts. A falcon flew in circles above the group of people around the fire. Elrohir walked into the circle of rangers around the fire. "Mae govannen" He greeted everyone politely. Then he sat down beside the fire and tried to warm his cold hands.

Jainawas happy to see so many people arriving to participate in the game; this was wonderful! She kept a careful list of who was playing, and finally divided the list up into two teams, randomly, and assigned each team their own fort. She also produced two brightly-coloured flags from her pocket and handed one to Halbaradand one to Elrohir, who happened to be the members of their teams who were standing closest to her at the time. She directed the first team to their fort on the top of Weathertop. The second team, she directed to their fort at the base of the hill, not far from the campfire. Both forts were built identically; large circular structures of snow and ice, with walls almost to head height, and only three entrances to each fort. Circles cut out of the walls provide the ability to see outside, as well as being the perfect place to launch ammunition from. Once she was satisfied that both teams had found their forts, Jaenastood about halfway up the hill - so that she could be visible to both teams from their forts - with a red flag in her hand and held it up, and then lowered it in one swift motion. The game was on!</font>

Team 1 - Halbarad and Dairen

Jaena had handed Halbarad a flag which was coloured with white stars on an azure field She then signalled with her own red flag that the game was on!

Halbarad immediately motioned his team (<?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place><?: prefix = u1 /><u1:place>Dairen</st1:place></u1:place>, Tarawen and Elegost) to quickly move away from the others towards their fort on the top of the hill so that they couldn't be tagged and jailed by the other team before the game had even started. As he did so he craftily attempted to tag Elrohir who was closest to him.

Their fort was a large circle built of snow and ice, with three entrances. He handed the team's flag to <st1:place><u1:place>Dairen</st1:place></u1:place> and whispered to him to run to the fort and hide the flag as quickly as possible, and then to start to stockpile an arsenal of snowballs inside their fort for future use.
<st1:place><u1:place>Dairen</st1:place></u1:place> hurled a single snowball in the direction of Beren and then took the flag and ran to the top of Weathertop where their fort was situated. He had to duck his head in order to enter through one of the entrances built into it. <st1:place><u1:place>Dairen</st1:place></u1:place> looked around and chose as safe a spot as he could think of to hide the flag, then got to work rolling up a number of snowballs and stockpiling them ready to be hurled through the 'windows' if needed.

Elegost, </font>Hérion the Falcon NPC</font>s
Team 1

</font>As the members of the game mobilized to sabotage and warm up for the icy fight of a lifetime, all in an attempt to capture the opposing team's flag, Elegost found himself pleading for his life with his pet and companion. </font>Hérion</font> cried out, swooping down to his master and scratching him on his cheek. "Happy now?" sighed Elegost, knowing the falcon could have targeted his throat easily, but didn't. </font>Hérion</font> growled on the ground below, before finally forgiving his master and giving a sharp nod. Nevertheless, the bird still wasn't allowed to play, and Elegost wondered if the reminder was going to be the last did he ever did. </font>Hérion</font> however, simply fluttered his wings and took flight, soaring out of sight. While his owner played, the falcon would hunt.

Elegost let out a sigh of relief, turning once more to Jaena. She handed the flags and appointed the teams and he rubbed his hands in excitement. He was fortunate to be on the same team as Halbarad, Dairen, and Tarawen. When the Ranger who hosted the event, raised her red flag and signaled the start, Elegost threw himself to one side and ducked for cover. He witnessed Dairen hurling a snowball at Beren and succeeding, encouraging Elegost to do the same. "How 'bout it Tarawen?" he asked his teammate, "I pelt Tolkus, you pelt the worm-eater?" With this, Elegost gathered a portion of snow in his hands. Making a terrible lopsided snowball. Good thing he was excellent archer, otherwise Elegost would have no talent whatsoever. "Take that!" shouted the Ranger, throwing the snowball towards Tolkus.

Update #2</font>
</font>Team 1:</font>Elegost (Sur) - Alas, Tolkuswas too quick and eluded you! But that doesn't mean you can't sneak off while your teammates keep your opponents occupied, if you wanted to ... after all, there is a flag to be found!</font>
</font>Team 2:</font>Tolkus - Elegostthrew a snowball at you but you narrowly managed to duck out of the way!</font></span>

Team 2- TolkusA snow ball went sailing past Tolkus' head narrowly missing him. He gave a hearty laugh while scooping up a handful of snow. He then noded to Elrohir to put in motion thier plan. Tolkus took off running, as best he could in the snow, to the left of the hill and as he set out he threw the snow ball at Elegost in hopes of hitting him or at least distracting him.

She accepted the woolen cap that Beren had found for her gratefully, and about doubled over with laughter when Elegost came screeching toward the group. Camlost's generosity with finding and distributing warm winter gear didn't prevent her from sticking out her tongue at him and his cousin once the teams had been formed, though. "Don't think just because you patched me up at Fornost I'll go easy on ya, Khall!" She grinned mischievously and scampered through the snow to meet up with her teammates, being careful not to be too cheeky around the renowned ranger Halbarad.

Once Jaena had signaled the start of the game, the action heated up quite quickly. Unfortunately, the weather did not follow suit and Tarawen was forced more than once to duck and tumble in the chilly, powdery snow. She took cover next to Elegost, and nodded, beaming, at his suggestion that they give throwing some snowballs a shot. She packed snow tightly between her hands, rolling the snowball up so that it was nice and dense, taking careful aim at Khallador. She jumped up suddenly, threw her snowball with a mighty "HA!" then dove into her team's fort to avoid his retribution.

Update #3</font>
</font>Team 1:</font>Tarawen -Success! Your snowball landed with a large splat ... on the side of Khall's head!</font>
</font>Elegost - Retaliation was swift - Tolkus threw a snowball right back at you ... and you are now covered in fluffy white stuff *g*!</font>
</font>Team 2:</font>Tolkus - Success! Your aim is certainly better than your opponent's, this time, but only time will tell if you will get away with it for long ...</font>
</font>Khallador - A very large snowball just hit the side of your head. Courtesy of Elegost.</font></span>

16/Feb/2012, 02:26 PM
Team 2- TolkusHaving watched his snow ball hit it's mark Tolkus did his best to stiffel a laugh as he ran to the left side of the hill. Sliding a few times but not completely losing his balance Tolkus was able to make two more snow balls to take with him up the hill. Here on the left side of the hill he hoped to sneak up and catch the other team unawaers and take thier flag. Slowly he began the hike up the hill with snowballs in hand to unleash on whomever he saw first.

Dairen and Halbarad- Team 1

Dairen couldn't believe that the wily Tolkus had eluded all attempts to either tag him or to bury him in apile of snowballs. He was now inside their own fort!!Dairen had heard that Tolkus was a bit of a legend among the Dunadain - and now here was a demonstration of his rangerly skills in action. Fortunately Dairen had stockpiled a good supply of snowballs so he set to work, trying to distract Tolkus by keeping up a bombardment of the icy missiles, while shouting out for re-inforcements. Where were the others? he wondered - thay had been silent for a very long time.

Meanwhile Halbarad was at a loss to know how Tolkus has escaped him - but he wasn't about to concede defeat so easily. He decided to make a foray into the opposing team's fort and to try to grab their flag first - as there was a complete lack of communication from the other players and he wasn't sure where they were all hiding. Not quite sure what he would find, he made his stealthy way towards Team 2's fort trying to move stealthily and remain un-noticed.
