One
day Mater was somewhat bored and there was no one he could tell his
stories to, so he decided to go for a little drive. As he cruised the
streets a thought appeared to him that perhaps he could draw the
attention of other Cars by organizing a little race. He instantly set
about preparing the track, setting apart a few streets that might either
lead the racers to the finish line quickly or lead them in circles
until the nightfall. Of course, he had also thought of a nice incentive
for the participants.

The winner would receive a wash, a nice
fresh coat of paint, a change of all four tyres, a change of oil and a
refill of gas. The one who would find himself (or herself) lacking in
speed a bit to catch the first car would get a wash and a refill of gas
and the third place would receive only the gas. Perhaps, only perhaps,
Mater might be moved to give a small reward to someone else too (perhaps
use his tow to help?).

Race Rules:</font>

1. Sign up either with your Cars character or be creative and participate with any kind of thing that can be moved along...
2.
I will roll the dice to assign you the number of spaces to move
forward. Red squares have special tasks, the blue ones take you away
from the main road or return you to it.
3. Awards:
1st place - 20 points
2nd place - 10 points
3rd place - 5 points
If you are extraordinarily creative or make me laugh, or both of these at the same time, you might expect some extra shinies!
4. Updates every 24 hours or so...

Cutpurse The Hearse
With the horsepower greater than three, full Rohirric Éoreds, Cutpurse rolled up to the starting line of the track with a fiery rev from his chrome exhaust pipes. More used to displaying his awesomeness in Monster Truck and car shows than an actual race, he sat in idle anticipation as the first participant...Assured that merely the sight of him would strike fear into his competitors.

1966 Batmobile</font>

The Batmobile rolled up to the starting line making depressing spluttering noises that in no way did the intimidating and cool nature of this awesome car any justice. The problem was that he was so powerful and firey for his age that he simply chewed up the fuel like nothing else. It had been a long trip up Route 66 to get to this race, and the Batmobile had needed to stop roughly 359 times to refuel. Fortunately there were enough almost abandoned and desperate gas stations along the way to give him cheap refills.

This latest case of crawling and spluttering was due to yet another empty tank. Fortunately the Batmobile, a brilliant black and orange modified version of an old Lincoln Futura concept car, wowed enough people at the start line of the race that he had service vehicles rushing up to him offering to fill him up again. Acting all gruff and cool, he popped his fuel cap flap open and let them fill him up, even though they wanted to charge him $15 a litre for their dirty fuel. But it was worth the hefty price, because he was soon fired up again, growling menacingly. A groovy old tune rang out loudly from the speakers built into his sides. It was the Batman theme. He was ready to go, and he would use all his fancy gadgets to wipe out the competitors

The Shopping Cart

She pushed the shopping cart up to the starting line. Cutpurse and the Batmobile were already there waiting. She inspected both of them and shook her head. A person against cars. Sure, they could drive themselves. Big deal. Both sputtered out clouds of exhaust. Not very green. Unlike her.
She hopped into the shopping cart and pulled her excessively long, keel-boat like pole and prepared to race. The tortoise against the hares.

Any more racers? We'll start in about 9 or 10 hours, but any late comers can still hop in, even when the race has started. Never know - might get in front of the others eventually!</font>

NPC Silver Flame</font>

</font>Rumor of a race taking place had reached Silver's ears and he hurried to where it was supposed to be held. He had entered in two races this week and had intentions of winning both of them. While he hadn't cleaned up for his other race, Silver had taken time to get prepared for this race. He had four brand new tires that gleamed and gripped the road far tighter than his worn out ones had. A fresh tank of gas kept his engine purring as he drove and growling when he raced. His body had received a fresh coat of glittery, shimmering silver that was almost blinding in the sun, a trait that he hoped to use during the race. Along both of his side, darker grey ghost flames ran up the sides, only visible in the perfect lighting. </font>
</font>As he pulled up to the start line, he took a quick assessment of his competition. It would be an interesting race with this assortment, he was sure. One of them didn't look like it would get much further than the start before running out of gas. Another appeared to be a human pushing a shopping cart, perhaps she would ride in it during the race but he couldn't imagine how it would go very fast without an engine. His suspicions were confirmed when she hopped into the cart before his eyes. This is going to be easy, he thought, giving his engine a rev to let them know he was ready. </font>

Lightning McQueen

Well it wasn't quite the Piston Cup, but he was Lightning McQueen. Come on man, he couldn't pass up on a race, not when he was the fastest wheels around. Not to mention in possession of the best pit-crew around. Guido could do anything better than the others, and quicker than the others. How could he possibly lose? He couldn't! It was that simple. This was a cakewalk. This was so easy that all the others might as well go home now before he left them eating dust.

Rolling up to the start line, McQueen had a quick glance from side to side, taking in the competition. Nobody he knew, that's for sure. Where Mater had found them he didn't know. Mater probably didn't know either. Chuckling, he revved his engine. Surely it was almost time to start......</font>

Mater watched the gathering racers and was contented to find that there were five of them. Would make for a good race, he concluded. He did not know most of the racers, in fact, none except for McQueen. Well, at least his friend had not declined the challenge, just as Mater predicted. With a wide grin he positioned himself to one side of the street and brought out the flag that he had found somewhere (borrowed from Doc, to be precise).</font><b style="color: rgb153, 0, 0; ">This flag he then waved for the racers to let them know that it was time to start the race, and just to make sure he also yelled, "GO!"</font>[/b]<b style="color: rgb153, 0, 0; ">

The race began with the drop of a flag and shout out from the speedy sport event's master of ceremonies : A rust-colored, bucket of bolts tow truck named Mater that Cutpurse found, quite oddly, humble and irresistibly likable. With a raucous rev from his ginormous and hand-polished engine, the creepy coach hot rod cut loose from the starting line and bolted down the track speedily.
It was not long before Cutpurse found himself just where he belonged : Leading at the forefront. Soon, however, the glittering Silver Flamecame up on his side as the two raced neck and neck. The flame of one of the funeral candles in his front headlamps rose sharply towards the sight of the competitor's intrusion. " And I thought I was too showy?...You look like some human kindergarten art project gone terribly bad! ", the motor breath of the hearse lashed out as his headlamps dimmed in a smug sneer.

Carly in The Shopping Cart
As soon as the flag dropped, Carly pushed her pole hard against the ground. In order to keep going straight, she had to move it from side to side, as though she were rowing a boat. It was fun. Sure, she didn't go as fast as the others, but she was steady.
She was very happy to see that she was keeping pace with the 1966 Batmobile. Old piece of junk. The way it sputtered out fumes, in her face, made her sick. She moved up closer beside it, so she could breathe better. She wondered if he was using Allinol, or one of Fillmore's organicconcoctions. Probably not, because those probably didn't smell that bad.

1966 Batmobile</font>

The Batmobile didn't exactly get a good start. He was used to firing off the mark with all cylinders burning, but only when there was a real emergency or super bad villain that required his attention. A formally organised race like this was a new experience to him, and when Mater yelled "GO!" he had been busy admiring a couple of his competitors, most notably the shimering Silver Ghost, and the ultra famous champion, Lightning McQueen.

So poor was his start that when he finally got started, he found himself level with a girl pushing a shopping cart. What was this!? He hadn't seen a human in a very long time. In fact, the last human he had ever seen was Batman, and that had been many many years ago, before he had woken up in a dark cave after a very long sleep. The Batmobile looked to the side and caught Carly looking at him with what appeared to be hatred. He'd show her. Putting as much acceleration into it as he could, he went flat-out and decided to employ a trick that would surely disgust the girl even more. So she didn't like fumes? Unlucky for her, he featured an awesome feature called the Bat Smoke Screen. All of a sudden his car started pouring out thick, blinding clouds of smoke from all directions. "This should slow her down!" he thought to himself as he grinned and pushed forward as fast as he could, hoping to gain some good ground after his little trick and catch up with the leaders.

Lightning McQueen

Other cars were staring at him. Not that it bothered McQueen, in fact, he loved it! Well, except for Mia and Tia, they were a pair of 'fans' he could probably do without. But still, he revved his engine again as the black car with the red stripes (The Batmobile) admired him. Didn't expect to see a Piston Cup winner at the start line, did he? Ha! Neither did he, to be honest, but this was Mater, and it was a race: how could he pass up on racing, especially one organised by a friend?

Thus, it came as bit of a surprise when Mater waved the flag and shouted GO!, and two of the other cars shot off ahead of him. He was used to having to overtake, specialized in it in fact, but that was on the professional circuit..... who were those two cars ahead of him. McQueen was sure he would recognise the silver one (Silver Ghost) if he'd raced against him before, as it was a rather bright paint job. Not to mention the other one (Cutpurse). It looked almost like Lizzie would if Frank got a hold of her and mauled her a bit. But again, if he'd raced against them before, he would have remembered it.

It was time to catch up. Speeding up, McQueen tried to close the distance between him and the two ahead of him. But they didn't seem to be getting any closer. It was then that McQueen saw the sign to turn off. It wasn't a standard roadsign, rather a crude arrow. Mater's doing............... trust Mater to put turn offs on a race track. Perhaps it would get him ahead of the others though, and let him make up for what was a rather poor start. What can he say; he hadn't been expecting such stiff competition. It was time to put that mistake behind him and win this race!

So he turned left. All he could hope was that it didn't lead to a dirt track. Mater knew he couldn't turn on dirt.......</font>

</font>The vibration from his own engine, multiplied exponentially by the other cars along the line, made Silver shiver with anticipation. It was almost time for race to start, he could feel it. Just before he imagined they would start, he felt the earth vibrate even harder as a new car added its engine revving to the ones already there. His mouth fell open when he realized it was none other than Lightning McQueen! That he was intimidating was an understatement but Silver vowed to keep his mind on the race at hand. He'd been practicing for months, fine tuning his skills, and pushing himself harder than ever. That his idol was in the race wasn't something that he was going to allow to interfere with his racing. At least he hoped it didn't. </font>
</font>Within moments, Materhad appeared with the flag causing a stir of excitement from everyone on the start line. Silver revved his engine right along with everyone else, using his brakes to stay in place. Then the flag was falling and they were all racing forward! He was pleased to find himself in a race for first with a car that he didn't know (Cutpurse). When the other car started making comments about his paint job, Silver felt crushed for a moment. He'd worked so hard to make sure his paint looked perfect. But just as quickly as that, his hurt was gone. He used it as fuel to propel him forward. </font>
</font>"See how it looks from behind," he growled, pushing himself harder to try and inch in front.</font>

All of the racers were now off, so Mater stood still for a while to look on. Two of the competitors were still quite near to the start line. To his apprehension Batmobile let out a whole lot of yucky smoke that reached even Mater and caused him to cough. Through the smoke he could still see the girl in the shopping cart and called encouragingly to her: "You can do it! I know that you can!" He was tempted to be sneaky and help her out by towing her for a little distance, but he held himself back from such an action.</font>

The haughty hot rod hearse then picked up the pace of the race after the harrowing remarks he exchanged withSilver Flame, suddenly slamming his sternum-shaped stick shift from fourth gear into overdrive upon seeing the first pronounced bend in the road coming up ahead. With a rush of howling wind reminiscent of a wily werewolf, Cutpurse cruised easily through turn one of the race track with lower wear on his monstrous engine block. Much to his chagrin, however, he found Silver Flame still there at his side.
" Impressive...most impressive...It appears that I might have underestimated your skill in driving prowess...yet this race is still far from being over, for I am unliving proof that looks are misleading! ", the creepy coach bellowed as the two forerunners exited the turn side by side.

Carly in the Shopping Cart

"I can do it, I can do it," Carly panted. She wondered why she'd ever signed up for this in the first place. She was very, very angry when the Batmobile let off his Bat Smoke Screen. She could hear Mater coughing up a storm and she also heard his encouraging shouts. "Thanks Mater!!!!!" she screamed above the other engines.
Now that she been encouraged, anger mounted up quickly inside her. If only she could have hooked up her heart to her cart; it was beating so fast it would have made her go faster than all the others puttogether. How dare that Bat-car-thing do that to her! Pick on a poor girl with no protection and with such a disadvantage. And polluting so badly! Carly felt like she was polluting, all the steam she was letting off. She vowed to make him eat his words.....actually, her dust. The tortoise is always steady. Her anger went into her arms, making her go faster, faster, faster!
With this sort ofenthusiasm(and an insane amount of luck) she could win this race!!!!!!

</font>His acceleration gave him only a marginal lead which frustrated the sports car who was familiar with racing and winning in smaller races. He hadn't managed to make it big on the main race circuit yet but he dreamed of it sometimes. Try as he might, he couldn't seem to pull ahead of the hearse as the rounded the first turn. </font>

He was surprised, he had to admit it. No dirt tracks. No tractors in the road. No Frank chasing him, no Bessie trying to enslave him...........no. Mater had found a nice, perfectly normal Roundabout. ROUNDABOUT!!! What sort of rust-addled Skoda would put a roundabout in a race? Probably the same rust-addled Skoda that put a left turn in a race, except for the fact that Mater wasn't a Skoda.

There was nothing for it, of course, so McQueen, eyes darting left and right, flew on to the roundabout, leaving a trail of black behind him as he skidded his way around. Not quite as graceful as his usual racing style, but he was on four tyres, roof facing upwards, and was going in a forward direction. All was good. True to style - Mater Style - there was another turn off to the right. He dismissed it immediately. He'd taken the left turn to try and get ahead of all the others; turning right now would just bring him back to join the same road the leaders were currently using. He wanted to get ahead of them, not join them. No, not that exit. Maybe the next one....

The entire city could probably hear him screech his way around the roundabout as he kept his eyes open for the next exit. </font>

</font>When the smoke finally cleared, the Batmobile saw that his trick had worked. The girl with the shopping cart was much further behind him now. Feeling good about himself and remembering just how awesome a vehicle he was, he felt the satisfying feeling of going flat out and power sliding around bends. He was not worried about his tyres. If this set wore out, his wheels had fancy tools to make sure he stayed on the road while a new set automatically replaced the old one. It sure was handy being a former superhero's vehicle! Not even worrying about his fuel usage now, he zoomed forward with the Hearse and the Silver Flame in his sights.</font>

Mater did not follow the racers into the track, but he had his ways of knowing what was going on. "Spies" placed throughout the track radioed in to tell of the progress of the racers. So he listened to the reports and grinned at the stubborn rivalry between Cutpurse and Silver. Batmobile seemed to be right after them. The girl with the shopping cart was not so fast, but then again - who knew. Mater had chosen the track wisely (or mischievously?). Even now he heard that McQueen was having the fun by exploring the roundabout.</font>

SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH!!

By the time he had missed not only the first exit, but the second exit as well, McQueen couldn't work out how nobody else had ever thought of this before. Mater was a genius!!! Roundabouts were the best thing since winter tyres! SCREEEEECH! Around he went, making a mess of the road it must be said, but he didn't care. He'd quite happily help relay the road, this was too much fun to not carry on! Was this how Mater felt when Tractor Tipping? It must be. It had to be. He hadn't had this much fun on a race track in............well, forever.

The third exit came and went, but McQueen didn't care. He was fast enough to be able to make up some lost ground. Especially as nobody else had joined him on this Circle of Fun, which meant they had to be going the long way around. So was he, for that matter, but who cares! Besides, going around again meant he could exit via the third exit and come out pretty much next to the finish line.

(It was, of course, just an excuse to go around again, but Sssssshhh)
</font>
So with a SCREEEECH and a grin, McQueen added a little bit more speed, the world shizzing past him and he sped back around the roundabout for a second time.

Carly in the Shopping Cart

(Beginning of 200 words...)
Carly was pleased with her progress so far. After all, it wasn't easy to race in a Shopping Cart. The darn thing was really hard to steer sometimes. Carly very soon found this out. As she glanced ahead, there appeared to be what looked like large spikes in the road. She quickly shifted her pole to the right side and bore hard, leaning in her cart towards the left. One down. Again, like lighting, she put her pole on the left and leaned towards the right. Second down.
She pushed her pole from side to side to pick up more speed. She saw the next spike up ahead, but couldn't get her pole shifted in time. She leaned, and consequently, veered towards the left, and before she could think, her Cart tipped over and out Carly spilled. In an instant, she was up, put the Cart upright and hopped in, getting up to speed again. For a split second, she glanced down to take inventory of her wounds. A cut from a rock on her arm and a scraped knee. Not too bad, but...Whoa! Yet another spike! She veered left and hoped that this was the end of the spikes.

The race really promised to become interesting, since more people seemed to be intent on joining the "roundabout fun". At least the inhabitants of the surrounding dwellings would have something unusual to look at. Unless they were too busy worrying that their homes might be run into and brought down by these wild racers. McQueen's screeching had already lured many a curious and concerned eye of a spectator.</font>
Lightning McQueen - 3Finally you have decided on where to turn away from the roundabout - perhaps not that close to the finish line, but still...Cutpurse the Hearse - 6Obviously you have no intentions to slow down much... Until you come to one of the turns and for some reason decide to go that way. How come?Carly &amp; the Shopping Cart - 3 + 2You successfully avoid those spikes and speed up, but it seems that you are also interested in turning off from the main race track. 1966 Batmobile
</font>
</font>"Holy haberdashery, Batmobile! You're in last place!"

The Batmobile was not living up to the extremely high standards he usually set for himself. For some reason, it just wasn't happening for him today. He wondered about the fuel that he had been filled up with at the start of the race. They had been so eager to fill him up with it, he wondered if it had been some kind of sabotagery. Perhaps a particularly dirty load of fuel, or even the wrong kind of fuel! No, he'd know if he'd been filled up with something like diesel. There'd be a lot more smoke and spluttering. It must have been one of those organic fuels. Highly expensive and highly ineffective, in his opinion. The Batmobile was old fashioned. One of the last of his kind. Good old powerful no-nonsense cars who hadn't lost any of their integrity. There was no way he would have let anyone fill him up with organic fuel if he'd known!

This just meant he would have to use all the tricks and gadgets under his hood to catch back up with the others. He could see the other races up ahead, but unfortunately the track ahead had some long curves and winding little periods, which meant he still had quite a way to go before he would start gaining on them. Well, that just meant he would have to forget about the road! The quickest way to get from point A to point B was to cancel out the curves and go as straight as he could. So he did. He suddenly swerved and left the road, where he began bouncing on rough and rocky terrain. It was a good thing that Batman had fitted him with good suspension all those years ago, because he definitely needed it now. He could feel all his inside parts rattling, and he sure would hate for anything to come loose!

Unfortunately, his off-road route was full of obstacles. Trees, rocks, spectators, cows, tractors, sheds, and all sorts of annoying things. But the Batmobile was full of tricks. After a loud rusty, grinding sound, the front of the car seemed to open up, and a large mechanism came out, where it then fixed itself for all to see. It was strong and metal and black, and frightening looking spikes were coming off it. It was the trusty Bat-ering Ram! Nothing would stay in his way now. Rocks shattered into a hundred pieces each, trees splintered, cows panicked, tractors tipped, and spectators shouted and shook their fists disapprovingly. But maybe, just maybe, the Batmobile would come back onto the road right behind the other competitors. Or perhaps even in front of them!

</font>Leading the race was a nice feeling, one that Silver was relatively familiar with as he'd been racing for a couple of years now. What he wasn't used to, however, was racing beside a hearse. Normally the cars that he raced against were sleek and shiny, much like himself, and they were designed just for racing. The same couldn't be said of his most recent competition. Cutpurse the Hearsewasn't shiny or designed for racing as far as appearances went but he was doing an amazingly good job at it. As the exited the turn another loomed up before them but the opposite direction. This is where my superior handling will come into play, Silver thought as he cut his wheels. But imagine his surprise when the hearse kept head to head with him! </font>
</font>"What does a straight jacket have to do with wanting to win the race," Silver asked, completely confused. As it turned out, he slowed down briefly to think about the riddle allowing the hearse to pull in front of him. He honked in alarm before pressing hard and rushing down the straight stretch. He'd finally understood what the other car had been trying to say but now he had to make up some time! He was so far behind that the girl (Carly) in the shopping cart had caught up with him! (Well, the roundabout had happened, but Ssssssh)

What happened to focus? To that determination to win? (The roundabout happened) (Ssssh!)</font> He couldn't even blame it on Sally distracting him with that ever so fine <strike>body </strike>*ahem* paint job, as she wasn't here. He had only himself to blame, and this wasn't like him. Yeah it was only a race among friends, but it was still a race. A race was always a race and he was Lightning McQueen, in it to win it, yeah!!

So it was time for some Zoom zoom from Stickers McQueen so he could catch up and take the lead!</font>

Batmobile - 1It only remains to be guessed what shortcut Batmobile thought he was taking, but... after all that immense effort he still ended up only little bit further from his previous position. How on earth was that possible?
Silver Flame - 5Ah, now Silver was hastening up again and covering some ground to catch up with Cutpurse... who had turned away from the main track. But speed is always good - takes you closer to the destination.
Cutpurse the Hearse - 3As you go down the side road you find McQueen there before you - coming in the opposite direction, that is, toward you. What explanation do you have for that? What do you say as you pass each other?
Lightning McQueen - 1Your exit from the roundabout seems to take some time. Why so? Maybe you wonder why Cutpurse is headed towards you, when the finish line obviously should be in the direction you are headed?
Carly in the Shopping CartWhy have you stopped? Are you pondering something important and very serious?

</font>As he flew down the straight stretch, feeling the way the wind curled over his hood and around fenders, Silver was beginning to fell a bit more like himself. The track was completely open ahead of him which was somewhat worrisome since he knew that at least one racer was ahead of him but for now, Silver wanted to enjoy the race. There was plenty of time to catch up to everyone else later. At least he hoped their would be. He had never raced on this track before but he assumed it was of decent length. </font>
</font>Beginning to feel worried, Silver accelerated again as he came up to another turn. The main track seemed to go in one direction with another smaller track flitting off to the side. Silver slowed briefly, wondering which way he should take. The smaller side road might get him to the finish line faster so he decided to turn that way. Imagine his surprise when he saw not only one car but two cars in front of him. One of them was thatdevilishlygood looking Lightning McQueen and the other was that surprisingly fast Cutpurse the Hearse. </font>
</font>"Surprised to see me again," he asked his nemesis as he pulled up closer. </font>

Lightning McQueen

Races were quite simple. All of the competitors went in the SAME DIRECTION, aiming to get to the finish line first. It was simple. You could understand it no matter what country you were in, no matter what language was being spoken. Drive THAT way, quicker than everybody else.......

So why in the name of Stanley's Holy Gasket was Frank-ified Lizzie driving TOWARDS HIM!?!?! It was absolutely mad! McQueen didn't care that they were driving on public roads and they were wide enough, that was entirely beside the point. That car was coming straight for him! They were going too fast, they wouldn't be able to stop in time. He could swerve out of the way, he supposed, but after all that screeching around the roundabout his grip was appalling. Oh why oh why had he decided to treat the roundabout like a merry-go-round? There was nothing he could do.........he was going to be nothing but a pile of scrap. Mater was going to have tow him off the track.........if there was anything left of him to tow off the track.

There was only one thing he could do: he closed his eyes and screamed.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Lightning McQueen - 6It seems that you escaped unscathed and vroomed off along the main track again. But for some reason you don't go straight for the finish line, but decide to join Silverin turning aside...

The haughty, hot rod hearse entered into the circular roundabout with sudden a look of deranged dismay seen within his candlelit headlamps. " Whaaaaa?...How the blazes did I end up in this wheel of misfortune?...* VROOOMMMM!!! * And who the heck was that just now!?!...No! It...cannot be!...It's that blasted candy apple red roadster McQueen!I'll show you mister goody two shoes ( brake shoes, that is )! ", a confounded Cutpurse exclaimed in utter rage as he slammed on his brakes and drifted in a 180 degree spin to hastily pursue the the crimson speedster that had just passed him going the opposite way.
" Oh no you don't, you're not getting away from me! ", the deadly dragster hissed in furious fashion as he feverishly followed the path of Lightning McQueen out of the raucous roundabout with Metallica's song Ride the Lightning blaring out of his seedy stereo speakers.

Lightning McQueen

He was.............alive? Cautious, not quite believing that he wasn't going to wake up to find himself at the scrap heap, he opened his eyes, to find himself plowing down the road at a rather disturbing speed. And if he didn't do something about it, he would soon be visiting the scrap pile. As a permanent resident!

It took another SCREEEECH of his already abused tires to get him around the ninety degree turn. If this was Mater's idea of a race track, then all McQueen could think was the racing world should get down on flattened tires and thank Dinoco that Mater's influence was limited to Radiator Springs and not the wider world. It was, he had to admit, rather fun, but only as a one off. He didn't think his poor engine, let alone his tires, could take it if this was a regular occurrence on the Racing Calender.

Turning another corner, and he could see it. The finish line! It was right there! And so was the sparkly silver car, aptly named Silver Flame.</font> Putting the proverbial pedal to the metal, McQueen zoomed. He zoomed like he had never zoomed before. That silver car was going to get a silver, second place trophy to match the paint job. That first place was!

Of, should have been. Instead, he was forced to take evasive action. He didn't want to squish that squirrel flat after all, did he? He wasn't the sort of car that enjoyed making road kill of the wildlife. But he couldn't help but curse, just a little, the damned pesky creature, when he once again found himself on the road towards the roundabout. But it was simple, all he had to do was go all the way around, and come back around on this road and then straight to the finish.

The only good thing that had come out of this detour (apart from the ongoing existence of the critters) was that Silver Flame had followed him. He still had a chance!

</font>The race was becoming mass confusion for the little silver car as he tried to rush toward the finish lines. There were too many twists and turns for him to figure out which direction he was meant to be going. Actually, there were so many twists and turns that he wasn't even exactly sure which direction he was going. Despite that, Silver continued resolutely forward. Then suddenly, there it was before him, the finish line. He surged forward toward it, ignoring everyone and everything around it. He was going to win. He could beat Lightning McQueen; he could do this! </font>
</font>And then it happened; at least something happened though Silver couldn't put a tire on what it was. Instead of racing toward the finish line, suddenly he was heading toward a roundabout. At least, that's what it looked like from here. He wasn't sure what was going on, he was just along for the ride. </font>

The tightly curved roundabout had proven to be the race within the race, for it certainly seemed much easier to enter than it did to exit. A maniacal grin formed upon the gruesome grill work of Cutpurse as he found himself back in front of Lightning McQueen and Silver Flame once again. " Round and round we go, where we stop, nobody knows!...Wait a second, I know, I know, we'll stop at the finish line!...Wherever and whenever that happens, haha! ", the devilish dragster deduced in a tone of whimsical wisdom.
" There seems to be no escape off of this wretched, wayward whirligig! I feel like I'm a part of some malevolent merry-go-round gone wild!...What frolicking fun! Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! </font>Somehow or another, Silver had gone from cruising along near the finish line to almost entering a roundabout. It was too confusing for him to understand what had happened so he didn't even try. Race cars weren't exactly known for their intelligence after all! Not only was he about to be stuck in a roundabout, really was there anyone that understood these things, but there were already two cars in the roundabout. One of them was Lightning McQueenwhich made Silver feel a bit more calm about things. If Lightning was there, it had to be right, right? But not only him, but also Cutpurse the Hearse. As he watched them go around and around and around and around, Silver wandered what he was getting himself into. Did it matter really? This was where the track went so he had no choice but to follow. </font>

Zoom, zoom, zooming round

I'm, I'm going to win
this awesome, awesome race!
And when I do you'll see a smile,

</font>Sure enough, he entered the roundabout with no exit anywhere in sight. What was good, however, was that he managed to edge in from of his two competitors that were here with himt As he surged through the turn, his tires gripping at the slightly banked track, Silver felt a surge of excitement course through him. It was a constant stream of turns and a constant stream of excitement. This was a lot more fun than he'd thought it would be! Sure, he'd been through these things a handful of times before but he'd never raced through one. It felt like he was going to fly off the track all the time as he flew around the circle. The swift, circular scenario inside the roundabout must have been as amusing to the cheering spectators as it was for the turbulent threesome stuck spinning round and round inside it. Cutpurse continued on in his whimsical state of flux by humming his chrome carburetors along with the spirited song emanating fromLightning McQueen, and could not help but notice thatSilver Flame seemed to be enjoying the tune as well. " If we don't find a way out of here soon, we'll surely run out of gas!...There's no fun at all in that happening now, is there?...That rust-bucket of a tow truck will be laughing his buck-teeth off as he hauls us away one by one, rest assured! </font>When he heard the dire warning from Cutpurse the Hearse, Silver couldn't help but burst out laughing at his characterization of Mater. Though he had been at odds with the other car early in the race, Silver found that Cutpurse was starting to grow on him. After all, it wasn't like Silver had a purse that could be cut so he had nothing to fear on that count and the hearse surely did seem to have a good sense of humor. That and Lightning McQueen's singing was making this race infinitely more amusing. That was until Cutpurse managed to find his way out of the roundabout. Silver was so turned around by now that he had no idea if the hearse was going in the right direction or not, though. So he wished him the best and continued his circular path. </font>

The singing has been completely impromptu, and rather unexpected, even by himself. Since when did he sing his way around a race track? Since race tracks had Roundabouts and junctions, apparently. Mater had a lot to answer for. It was even better when the Frank-inated Lizzie Car (Cutpurse) joined in, humming with his carburetors. Rather ingenious, he had to admit.

What wasn't so ingenious was a factor that he hadn't considered. Fuel. He was normally fuelled to the nines when he was racing in the Piston Cup, as they had a huge amount of laps. But for this, he figured short race, so less fuel; that way he weighed less and could inch a little bit more speed out of his engines. But Frank-inated had a point....... they had been going for quite sometime on this rather unorthodox racetrack. Longer than he had anticipated. How much fuel did he actually have left.......

The thought of Mater towing them off, one by one, had McQueen laughing with the rest. He had probably planned it from the start. He was going to ruin those plans though. Time to clear this roundabout one last time and get to that finish line.

" Must remember to steer clear from that wily wheel of misfortune from now on...That is, if I can help it...Just you wait until I get you under my wheels Mater, I'll commend you for your admirable antics first, then squash you like a Volkswagen bug! " Well now, isn't this a familiar scenario?...This time I'll be sure to make my way off of this calamitous carousel at the southern off-ramp...I've had my fill of this roundabout road that leads to nowhere but utter insanity! ", the disgusted dragster screamed in psychotic assertion as he blew by the shopping cart as hastily as all possible to at least place second in the ridiculous race.

</font>No more silly roundabouts that made your head spin until you didn't want to do anything but drive in a circle. No more side roads that promised a quick way to the finish line only to have to it snatched away as you were redirected to the roundabout. No, this was the real finish line! As he cruised under it and heard the honking of horns to welcome him, Silver finally relaxed. He had won! He's beaten Lightning McQueensomehow! He was still in a daze when Materapproached and asked if the others were coming or if he should go get them. </font>
</font>"I think they'll be on their way shortly. It was that roundabout of yours. Tricky bit of work that. It got most of us trapped but I think they'll be along as soon as they can get out of it!" </font>

Carly in the Shopping Cart - 2You'vesuccessfully avoided being run over by Cutpurse, but for one reason or another you have passed the exit closest to the finish line. How come? Are you also caught up in the round-and-round silliness?
Cutpurse the Hearse - 4Well, at least you have passed the eastern exit which would do you no good anyway, as well as the northern one, but you still have a possibility to get back your coveted southern exit. After all you have to get out of this circle somewhere.McQueen &amp; Batmobile-http://www.lotrplaza.com/forum/smileys/smiley23.gif

In her haste to get away from Cutpurse, Carly looked back and realized that she had missed her turn off! She slapped her forehead as she turned around and looked at Cutpurse. "Darn hearse," she muttered. "Anyone would think he want to carry me in his back across the finish line." She shook her head and resolved to just go all the way back around the roundabout and get off at the southern exit, if she didn't have a near accident again!

Carly in the Shopping Cart - 3You find yourself following Cutpurse, but not fully around the roundabout. For some reason you have decided to exit the same way that you came in. While it is not the furthest way from the finish line, it is still not very close to it either. But if you still have strength to guide your cart, you might just make it in time to trick the remaining cars still stuck in the roundabout!Cutpurse, McQueen &amp; Batmobile-http://www.lotrplaza.com/forum/smileys/smiley23.gif

With a fiery flash of renewed resilience emanating from his funeral candle lamps, Cutpurse sped through the roundabout most determined to vacate its pinwheel premises only at the southern exit. His patience was growing nearly as thin as the amount of fuel he had left within his tank and he knew well that something had to done about it soon before one of them was exhausted completely.

Cutpurse the Hearse - 3It seems that you have finally found the way out of that never-ending circle - and the southern one too. But are you aware in which direction you are going or are you too dizzy to realize that? But no matter - out of that roundabout you go.Carly, McQueen &amp; Batmobile-http://www.lotrplaza.com/forum/smileys/smiley23.gif

A sound, smug, and scintillated twinkle could be seen within the creepy coupe's headlamps when, at long last, he had finally found himself embarking upon the southern off-ramp of the ill-reputed roundabout. " Well it's about bloody time! I thought there'd be no end to that screwy circle of schizophrenia! Now I must keep what little wits I still have left and finish this confounded competition!...And by any means possible, hehehe... ", the covert and callous Cutpursefinished in a cackle as he cautiously tread forward.

Cutpurse the Hearse - 2You are cautious indeed and take it quite slow, as you cruise along the street leading back to the main track. There are some onlookers watching you, and even random cheering can be heard. But who knows what awaits you, once you get onto the proper race track again...Carly, McQueen &amp; Batmobile-http://www.lotrplaza.com/forum/smileys/smiley23.gif

Carly had just needed to take a rest. Her arms were hurting a lot. She felt better after a few minutes and got up her strength and started again. She decided to just get off the darn roundabout, even if she had to go the long way around. It was better than going in circles. That just made her dizzy. She pushed hard, looking around for the finish line, and avoiding the other cars.

Cutpurse had never before taken so many careful precautions towards finishing a race like this one, albeit even for the runner-up's place...He knew well that his resilient reputation and paranormal pride would both be at stake towards the outcome. " Must...stay...focused!...Must...stay...on track! Yes, yes, I know how awesome I am onlookers, you don't have to keep reminding me! ", he kept repeating to himself while carefully cruising down the southern road in angst of the final left turn back onto the race's main thoroughfare once more.

Carly in the Shopping Cart - 1It must be pretty hard to start rolling again after a stop. You go slowly at first, making your way off that silly merry-go-round circle in the midst of the town. Some cars honk at you their greetings as you move forward. They are nice enough to cheer for you, even though they consider you to be a rather peculiar vehicle.
Cutpurse the Hearse - 1Well, it may appear that you are almost too cautious now. But still you have finally managed to turn onto the main road again. There are no other cars to be seen on the stretch before you. Except those behind the finish line waiting for you to arrive.McQueen &amp; Batmobile-http://www.lotrplaza.com/forum/smileys/smiley23.gif

The overly conservative Cutpurse continued to chug along down the side street at a set and slowed pace...That is, until he came to the intersection which led back to the main road of the racetrack. " What's this?...Can it be?...Am I finally rid of that confounded roundabout for good?...HURRAH!!! ", he cried out in elation while speeding up to make the left-hand turn back onto the track with tears of joy moistening his headlamps.

Carly

Carly's arms still ached, but she pressed on with high hopes. She smiled and waved at the cars who cheered for her. They were pretty nice. After all she was verypeculiarlooking to most cars. Most just stopped and stared and then asked what she was. It wasn'tespeciallyenjoyable, but she liked to hear their responses and guesses as to who/what she was. All these thoughts were running through her mind as she slowly picked up speed down the track. She saw the Batmobile sitting up ahead in front of her, and wondered if he had just broken down. She hoped so, only because he was facing her and might try to run her over, or worse yet, do his smokey screen thingie again.

Cutpurse the Hearse - 2Hmm... Your speed is not very great yet. Are you running out of petrol? Get to the finish line and then you'll get a refill! There are people waving at you welcomingly!
Carly in the Shopping Cart - 1Batmobile seems not to pay any attention to you as you approach. Perhaps he has fallen asleep? I figure you would not stop to check it out?McQueen &amp; Batmobile-http://www.lotrplaza.com/forum/smileys/smiley23.gif

With a resounding rev emanating from his enigmatic engine, an auspicious Cutpurseswerved onto to the main route of the race with the coveted finish line clearly in his sights. The crowds of onlooking people were cheering him on emphatically as he sped by them on the last leg of the race, hoping that what little fuel he had left in his tank was enough to finally end this chaotic competition for him. " Just a little further!...Almost there! ", the hopeful hearse exclaimed aloud as he continued down the course.

Carly saw the Batmobile just sitting there doing nothing. She couldn't really see if he was sleeping or not, it was kind of hard to tell. She decided that he probably was so began to try to sneak passed him. She tried to quietly pass him, but suddenly caught a whiff of exhaust. Was he doing his smoke screen again? Without waiting to see, she stuck her tongue out and blew a raspberry at him and jabbed him hard with her pole to escalate her speed. Silly Batmobile. She hoped he wouldn't try to get revenge on her, though.

Cutpurse the Hearse - 5Finally! Finally the time has come for you to cross the finish line. You've made it! And as a second one too. Notice those expressions of joy by the observers? Even some confetti is thrown your way! Now you can get your refill of fuel and a nice long shower in the carwash.
Carly in the Shopping Cart - 2For one reason or another you get away with poking that Batmobile. He doesn't even care, as you roll buy in your cart to continue the race.McQueen &amp; Batmobile-http://www.lotrplaza.com/forum/smileys/smiley23.gif
