Allthough a serious piece of motion picture history there are moments in the films when you cant help but smile. what are your funniest parts?
Personally I like a bit of dwarf Humour when Gimli is told by Aragorn at Amon Hen to rest and recover his strength (His look of inidignation is classic) Also when Gimli goes on about dwarfs being natural sprinters 'very dangerous over short distances' lol

I like the part where Gimli puts on the long chain mail hilarious!  Legolas and Aragorn's expressions are priceless.  And then the part where Legolas offers to find him a box is pretty funny, too.

I also chuckle at Pippin during the Council of Elrond.  "So where are we going?"  (The few lines before that are amusing too, but that one... ROFL)

At Amon Hen when the Uri-Khi are running after Frodo, there is one running down those stairs as careful as possible while still going fast, don't trip.  Then when Aragorn kicks the helmet and screems, not sure if it's fustration or pain, that's gotta smart.

Tolkus: if I remember correctly the reason Vigo screams is because he broke a toe or toes. They had to keep redoing that scene because he couldn't get the right emotions, but when he broke his toe, he had the right emotion.

For me, I like the scene where Merry and Pippin discover Saruman's storehouse. Their faces when they see everything are priceless. I also like it when Aragorn tosses apples over his shoulder to Merry and Pippin.

Yes, Dimcairien, you are correct in that he broke his toe while kicking the helmet, ha. It's in the special features, and the crazy thing is that he continued that scene without saying anything until he finished! It's like when during Helm's Deep he got his tooth chipped by a sword but asked to get it super-glued back on real quick so they could finish the scene, ha. Tough guy.

But anyways, I also agree with Tolkus that it's hilarious with the Uruk-hai tip-toeing down the steps when chasing after Aragorn/Frodo, ha, I always commented on it while watching the movie because no one else ever noticed it, so i'm glad you did too, haha, too funny. It's probably because the stunt guy had a hard time seeing his feet because of the helmet :D.

Also, another great part is in the extended edition of the Two Towers where Merry and Pippin find all that food at Isengard after it's flooded...just that whole conversation is hilarious: "The world's back to normal" - "No it's not, I'm starving." Hahahaha, ah Pippin.

Also, in the extended Two Towers that scene after the battle of Helm's Deep with Legolas and Gimli where they compare how many orcs they killed and Legolas shoots the orc that Gimli was sitting on because it was twitching, and Gimli replies "He was twitching, because he got my ax embedded in his nervous-system!"

Okay, sorry, i got lots but i'll just say one more. Also in the extended edition but in the Return of the King, when Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli are in the Paths of the Dead and Gimli is trying to blow away the vaporous hands floating around and then prancing around as to not crush the skulls, hahahaha, tough dwarf fail :D

Apparently for Sam's wedding, they couldn't get the right feel for the kiss, so (forgive me, i haven't watched it in a while so i might be wrong) Viggo grabbed Billy and kissed him off camera

Yeah, i just saw that a couple weeks ago in the Extended edition special features, haha. Billy was saying how he felt tongue. That's so sick but Viggo's such an awesome dude (from what i saw from the rest of the special features) that i think we can forgive him. And apparently Sean Astin, whoever played Rosie, and everyone else who was there agreed to tell Sean's wife that they got that take on the first try, ha, so that she didn't know he had to kiss her multiple times. Sneaky.

Yeah, Billy Boyd's the actor who played Pippin, and I was saying that it is fairly odd that Viggo Mortenson (Aragorn) kissed Billy Boyd in the first place, but that it is disgusting (aka "sick") that he got some tongue-action in the kiss, ha.

I love all those quotes mentioned earlier. My favourite one is:  "So where are we going?"  - everybody seems to like Pippin´s expressions. ROFL I also really like: "Shall I describe it to you? Or would you like me to find you a box?" (Legolas to Gimli at the beginning of the Battle for Helm´s Deep).

Eowyn heard from Theoden that Aragorn fought with her grandfather, Thengel. It humors me how she slowly founds out that Aragorn is 87 years old! LOL
And the look of Aragorn's face of him drinking that soup ROFL

Fellowship. First of all I like the Hobbit pile in "shortcut to Mushrooms.
Also I Like the part before Migwater Marshes when they stop, as if to have "second Breakfast," and Aragorn walks away and Pippin says (my signature) and Strider throws the apples at Merry and Pippin. One of them hits Pippin.    'Pippin.' - Merry.

Two Towers. I also Ent Draft. "No! No! Treebeard said you should not have any!"
But my favorite is, "would you like me to find you a box?"

Return of the King. When saruman dies. (smallest Quote ever by me on this subject .)
"Peregrin of the Tower Guard". the Quote from Pippin, "I shan't grow any taller, exept sideways!"
And the fact that the orcs can't break down the gates of Minas Tirith.
What about second breakfast?
What about Elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon Tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them doesn't he? -Pippin (Fellowship of the Ring)

váryá- those are wonderful indeed ahahhaa XDDD

I also personally like the one where Gimli lets Aragorn toss him in two towers,
then the part where Gimli won over Legolas by one count in their orc slaying game,
also the part about the 'Real elvish rope?' with Frodo and Sam XDDDD
ahh, and the part where Pippin asked Merry if they should share the pipeweed leaves(?) with treebeard and Merry said no coz' it might be a relative of treebeard's, then mimics 'Burárum' afterwards. LOL
And then the beards! The way how Gimli talked about the female dwarves was so funnyyyy XDD,
ahh, and everytime I see Gimli riding a horse with Legolas I find it sweet, then hilarious after XDDDD,
ahh, another is the part where the ents rummaged Isengard. There's this one Ent who got caught on fire, then when the dam was broken and the river went free, that ent dipped his burning head on the water ahaahaaaaa XDDDDDDDD

ahh, and the list goes on and on, XDD wow, there's much humour than I expected it to have. XDD

Two Towers, just after the battle of Helm's Deep.
Legolas: "Final count.... 42."

Legolas: 'shoots the orc where gimli is sitting on'. And he says: "Now I have 43 too."
Gimli: "He was already dead!"

All of these are so hilarious!  I just re-watched the extended edition of the FOTR last night (TT tonight, ROTK tomorrow :D)  and I'd forgotten how many bits almost made me cry.  There is so much humour in there, that people seem to forget about when discussing these films...

On the way to Rivendell, Merry says "What do they eat, when they can't get Hobbit?"  Gets me every time.

"So where are we going?"  Need I say more?

When the fellowship is leaving Rivendell, and Frodo asks "Mordod Gandalf, left or right?"  XD

When they're in the room with Balin's tomb - Boromir : "They have a cave troll!"  Every time!  The look of sheer indignation on his face!

And the bit when Boromir gets thrown on the floor (again in Moria) and an orc goes to kill him, then Aragorn flings his sword at him...  Then gives Boromir this tiny nod...  I had to watch that quite a few times, it made me laugh so hard!

I could go on...  For so much longer.  I mean, any scene with Pippin and Merry is awesome, and I've not even started on the other two films!

The drinking game is priceless as well...

"We Dwarves like to go swimming...  With little hairy women..."  XD

I love Bilbo's introduction to the Shire and Hobbits at the start of the extended edition to Fellowship. Hilarious!

I also love the old Hobbit who's gardening when Gandalf lets off a few friecrackers for the Hobbit children. First he scowls, then starts laughing but then his wife comes over and gives him a look- straight back to the scowl. Priceless!

Aw gosh you said them all! eheh

I absolutely adore Pippin twists the hand of the dwarf corpse, everytime I see it I cannot keep myself from laughing, it's such a thing that (sadly!) I would do as well!

I really like as well when int ROTK Sam accuses Smeagol to betray them and planning to kill them and Smeagol replies that he wouldn't hurt a fly and there is one smashed on his face a second after.. (to be honest I kind of assume that there is a fly, also if everything I could manage to see in the dark is a bit of blood, can anyone help me to realise if there's or not a dead fly on his forehead?! I dunno).

When Smeagol sings his song so happily smashing a fish on the rock in the Forbidden Pool.

and then so many others but you guys already provided to write them out before me ;)

This is one of the funniest moments in TTT for me. Gimli's facial expression was hilarious, and I just adore the sense of humour these two had!

In ROTK, there was a scene where Aragorn forbade the Corsair ships to sail to Gordon and told Legolas to fire them a warning shot. Gimli, however, moved the bow slightly and so when Legolas fired, it killed the person beside the Captain of the ship. I forgot what Gimli said, but it made me laugh. Liked Aragorn's imitation of Elrond's raise-eyebrow thing, too. Haha.

I laughed at the Gimli parts, but I have dwarf friends here that were more insulted and annoyed at his portrayal than amused. Billy's parts were really funny to me throughout, but I think one of my favorites is when he does the double-take and sees Treebeard's face. That part always makes me laugh. Often it is the acting bits like that that I find most amusing instead of funny dialog. I also liked Aragorn's bit eating Eowyn's soup in the extended edition.

Also, when Treebeard is explaining how they lost the entwives, and caanot find them. The bewildered looks the hobbits have are hilarious!

Oh, and then there's Gandalf to Pippen: "...as a matter of fact its best if you not say anything at all, Peregrin Took."

Last one (there are a lot though!): the cave-troll battle in Moria, where the troll is trying to smash Gimli but Gimli loses his balance and the troll's mace keeps smashing the goblins that happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Priceless!

Gimli's "My axe is embedded in his nervous system"
Merry's "No, might be a distant relative" when discussing sharing pipeweed with Treebeard.
The "second breakfast" scene.

But the best ever is Gimil & Legolas' drinking game!
Herald of halfir

My favourite bit of the whole trilogy is the look on the face of the drummer troll when he looks right into the camera with a "what just happened" look on his face after Gothmog steps out of the way of the massive lump of Minas Tirith that had just been catapulted at him. Never fails to get a laugh LOL

Mostly it's the stuff that Merry, Pippin and Gimli say.
Merry - "I think I've broken something"...out comes the broken carrot
Pippin- "You need people of intelligence..." Merry "That rules you out Pip"
Pippin - "where are we going?"

Drunken Gimli is hilarious - It's the dwarves that go swimming...with little hairy women, and he's twitching because he's got my Axe embedded in his nervous system!!

I think it's the Ale that makes them so funny!

Other than the moments everybody else has stated, I love the part where just after the beacons sequence, Aragorn bursts into Theoden's hall to tell him, and he has a really goofy expression. I happened to pause it on that moment and all my friends were cracking up.

Elrond's expression after Sam shows himself in the Council of Elrond. And talking of Elrond, the way he says 'mordor'...

Every time Gollum calls Sam fat is pretty funny, and to counter everytime Sam calls Gollum a stinker is pretty funny.

Just watching TTT EE the bit when Faramir is talking to Sam and Frodo.

Frodo: Frodo Baggins is my name and this is Samwise Gamgee
Faramir: Your bodyguard?
Sam: His gardener!

The utter look of seriousness on Sam's face when he says that is priceless and makes me chuckle.

It's a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no telling where you might be swept off to.
