 Topic: Boredom OR amusementBoredom OR amusement: the first and probably only thread The Rules: This is a quiz thread. But it's not a normal quiz thread. Each question has two possible answers and it is up to you to decide which you agree with. If you want to be interesting, explain your choice. If you want to be boring ... well you could just say one or the other, but it'd be even more boring to not answer at all. I will not respond to your answers unless I find them interesting and I'm in the mood to do so. Because otherwise it would be boring for me. And that is anathema to this thread. Spam is tasty and we want MOAR. Go ahead and respond to other people's answers if you want. You can even claim my authority as threadrunner but you'll have to make your own anti-boredom thread. I don't know any Navs. I don't know any Narvs, either, but I've read some posts by one, and about some of his pranks... gives me ideas... 3. Imladris OR Rivendell? Rivendell. "Imladris" may be Elvish, but "Rivendell" actually puts a picture in my head... plus, I read "The Hobbit" first. 4. Lore OR role-play? Role-play. I tried Lore, completely embarrassed myself a few times, and decided to leave it to the experts. 5. Cowboys OR Redskins? Are you talking about the football teams? I don't know anything about football. The historical cowboys vs. Indians (or Native Americans, which is more semantically correct)? The Indians. I like to defend the underdog. Plus, they were the rightful landowners. 6. Avatar: The Last Airbender OR James Cameron's Avatar? I haven't watched either, so I wouldn't know. 7. Frodo OR Sam? Do I have to choose? *sigh* All right - I choose Sam. Anyone loyal and brave enough to fight giant spiders and walk into towers full of orcs for their friend has my vote. 8. Legolas OR Gimli? Legolas. Elves rule.9. Lord of the Rings OR Harry Potter? Lord of the Rings, definitely. Why should I take anything less than the best? 10. Puns OR sarcasm? It depends on the person and the situation. I usually use sarcasm, but I like puns whenever I can get good ones. 11. Summer OR winter? Winter. Summer = bugs, heat, sunburn, and lawn-mowing. 12. Roller coasters OR merry-go-rounds? Merry-go-rounds. I don't like feeling like I'm falling. Roller coasters do that to me, though I don't find them as scary as I used to. 13. Airplane OR aeroplane? "Aeroplane" sounds cooler, but for everyday use, I'd go with "airplane". Or just "plane". Fewer syllables. 14. Jazz OR rock? Neither. I like classical or CCM. 15. Newspapers OR television? Neither. I don't like news... but if I have to choose one or the other, I'd go with television. 16. Football OR soccer? Sports. Ugh. If I can't play (and I happen to be awful at both), it's no fun to watch. I'd choose soccer over football, though. 17. Lightsabers OR blasters? Lightsabers are more closely related to swords, and therefore cooler. 18. Hobbits OR halflings? It depends on the tone. In poetry, I might talk about "halflings". In everyday life, I would use the word, "hobbits". 19. Merriam-Webster's OR the Oxford English Dictionary? Which one is free? I'll take that one. 20. Halfir OR halfir? I hear he prefers to be called halfir. I like to call people by the names they prefer to be called.

In most things that I associate with, Nav, hands down. In matters of humor, I have to concede to Narv. 3. Imladris OR Rivendell? Imladris. I have a thing for the more elegant names, that's why I say "palantiri" and "silmarilli" instead of palantirs and silmarils (the former not being used by Tolkien to my knowledge, the latter indeed being used by Tolkien, though he also used "silmarilli") 4. Lore OR role-play? Lore, most obviously. Everything started with lore. 5. Cowboys OR Redskins? Red wings. Football is crude and unsophisticated. 6. Avatar: The Last Airbender OR James Cameron's Avatar? Impossible to tell, as I've no experience with the Last Airbender. However, on the basis that I have seen James Cameron's Avatar, and quite enjoyed it, I have no qualms saying it's better than something I've never seen. 7. Frodo OR Sam? Merry. Frodo becomes a bit spineless towards the end, and Sam ... well, always seemed a bit spineless towards the beginning, overly servile for my tastes. 8. Legolas OR Gimli? Excuse me? You're making me choose between a narcissist and an ankle-biter? 9. Lord of the Rings OR Harry Potter? Never read HP. Been told I'd like it, but haven't gotten around to it. Though, for various reasons and things I've heard, I'm left with a negative impression and thus would put LotR above HP. 10. Puns OR sarcasm? Depends on the situation, I enjoy bad nerdy puns, although a good application of sarcasm is great too. Online, I suppose I'd opt for puns, since sarcasm is too easily misinterpreted. 11. Summer OR winter? Summer. Winter just turns everyone around me into crappy drivers. 12. Roller coasters OR merry-go-rounds? Neither. Roller coasters have historically not been my thing, and merry-go-rounds are, quite frankly, boring. 13. Airplane OR aeroplane? Airplane. Like the movie. 14. Jazz OR rock? Rock. Jazz has it's place, but several variants of the Rock family of music are what I like. 15. Newspapers OR television? Uh ... I use each for two rather distinct purposes. TV is for entertainment, newspaper is for, well, news ... 16. Football OR soccer? See above - not a fan of football. Soccer, however, is quite fun to play. 17. Lightsabers OR blasters? Lightsabers - again with the elegance factor, just can't beat it. 18. Hobbits OR halflings? Hoppits, of course. Though of these two, Halflings. See again my explanation about Imladris/Rivendell. 19. Never having seen Airbender, I know that Avatar sucked major along with

You can always keep adding clothes to keep warm, but there comes a
point when you can't take anymore off to keep cool. And that is a fact
of life.

13. Airplane OR aeroplane? Being from
the West side of the pond, Airplane. Additionally, since those who are
credited with the first Airplane are indeed American, Airplane is my
answer 'cause that's what the Wright Bros.

15. Newspapers OR television? I wish I felt more compelled to read the newspaper.
16. Football OR soccer? Football.
'Cause it's actually played with the feet. By this I mean that soccer
should be called football, and American football needs to get a new
name.
17. Lightsabers OR blasters? Lightsabers, duh. Is there a question about this?
18. Hobbits OR halflings? Hobbits
19. Merriam-Webster's OR the Oxford English Dictionary? Webster. He created the first dictionary of the modern age and standardized the English language.
20. Halfir OR halfir? halfir. No explanation needed.
Absolutely dumb and pointless and uninteresting and non-educational and uninspiring film about I don't even know what. Bleh. It's like the film version of Old Man and the Sea. Completely over-rated and good for only one thing: to use as combustible material to keep people warm.

I'm too tired to respond to everyone (and there are a lot more responses than I thought there would be) but I wanted to say thanks to all of you for brightening up my day with some very funny posts.
